“I am not even thinking about this (coalition with the conservatives), as we will work in coalition with the Social Democrats for another three and a half years,” Karbauskis told the national television LRT on Sunday.
He said he saw attempts by the conservatives’ leader Gabrielius Landsbergis to put a wedge between the LFGU-delegated Prime Minister Saulius Skvernelis and the Karbauskis-led LFGU political group in parliament.
“Yes, Gabrielius Landsbergis is working hard with his Facebook posts to create what I call is artificial tensions and a situation where he expects me to respond to the statements in some way. I will not respond at all,” said the LFGU leader.
Karbauskis said he knew about Skvernelis’ meetings with Landsbergis, although they were never announced.
The last meeting took place at the government on April 4. Landsbergis and the prime minister’s spokesman said counter-migration measures was the main topic on the agenda.
Tensions between Skvernelis and the LFGU political group have lately heightened. The prime minister said he did not know whether the planned reforms were even possible amid opposition from the LFGU group that delegated him to the Cabinet, while Karbauskis maintains that the head of the government was too emotional.
