Lithuanian govt allocates EUR 48,000 for children from eastern Ukraine

DELFI / Domantas Pipas

The money will be used to cover education and accommodation costs for 15 children and an accompanying teacher for a year.

Incoming children attend Vilnius Lithuanians’ House and some of them remain as permanent students after learning the Lithuanian language and others return to Ukraine.

Lithuania has been receiving Ukrainian children from the Donetsk and Luhansk regions since 2014 when Russia annexed the region of Crimea and started backing pro-Russian separatists in the east of the country.
