The Ministry of Foreign Affairs helped to transfer the collection of books which should reach Ukraine by next week.
Chairwoman of the Lithuanian Jewish Community Faina Kukliansky said that the present was symbolic and very special.
“It is a sign of closeness and being together. We try to support every Jewish community in the world when needed. In this case we share the intellectual heritage of Grigory Kanovich, an expatriate from Lithuania and a laureate of the National Prize,” said the chairwoman.
In 1989 around 490,000 Jews lived in Ukraine. After the collapse of the Soviet Union, approximately 80 percent of them emigrated.
