“The day of unity and peace is marked in Europe today. This day reminds us that European unity is an example worth following, based on democracy, respect for human rights, exceptional peaceful cohabitation of free nations and coordination of interests. Openness to the world and, first of all, to your neighbors is a key element of the European Union,” Butkevičius said.
In his words, Europe Day is an extremely important date in today’s context.
“The ongoing events in Eastern Partnership countries show how important it is to receive assistance from partners and feel their support. Being near the harmonious European family united by the same values and principles, their neighbors can feel safer,” the Lithuanian prime minister said in a statement issued by the Government of Lithuania.
Butkevičius invited people to remain open, learn from the achievements of others and share their experience.
“We have been part of the European Union for eleven years and are glad with all changes our country has gone through. We are able to travel, learn and work in any EU country, cherish common values and feel support of each other,” the prime minister said.
