Grybauskaitė underlined that the support extended by the people of the United States to Lithuania’s freedom has always been precious to Lithuania and carried special meaning in the centennial year of its restored statehood, and that friendship and commitment to strengthen bilateral ties is a top priority, the presidential office said in a statement.

According to the president, in the face of today’s serious security threats, Lithuania stands by the joint resolve to increase defense spending, ensure full readiness for defense, reinforce NATO‘s military capabilities and effectiveness, and allocate more resources to fighting terrorism and hybrid threats.

“We highly value the expanding dialogue between Lithuania and the United States in energy, business, defense, military cooperation, and cyber security,” the president wrote in her message of congratulations.

Grybauskaitė described America’s decision to keep its military forces in our region as not only a sign of friendship and solidarity, but also an important symbol of deterrence and a solid guarantee of the security of the Baltic states.

“The Lithuanian president expressed her strong belief that long-term common goals and interests would help to find solutions to the challenges of today, ensure the development of mutually beneficial cooperation, expand the scope of opportunities for Lithuanian and U.S. citizens to build up their nations, boost economic growth, and uphold the values of freedom and liberty,” the statement reads.
