Masiulis told the newspaper that he saw his emails with the president on the table of prosecutor Justas Laucius who led the political corruption case.
According to the daily, the emails included discussions on candidates for prosecutor general, circumstances of their appointment, incumbent Prime Minister Saulius Skvernelis‘ political ambitions to run for parliament with the Lithuanian Farmers and Greens Union, other political issues.
In the emails sent during the 2014 presidential campaigns, Grybauskaitė discussed potential weaknesses of her then run-off rival Social Democrat Zigmantas Balčytis, the daily writes.
Formal suspicious in the MG Baltic political corruption case have been brought against three legal entities — the Liberal Movement, the Labor Party and MG Baltic — and a number of natural persons, including former Mg Baltic Vice-President Raimondas Kurlianskis, three former members of the Liberal Movement — Eligijus Masiulis, MP Gintaras Steponavičius and former Vilnius councilor Šarūnas Gustainis — and Vytautas Gapšys, a former Labor Party lawmaker.
Kurlianskis is charged with giving bribes to Masiulis, Gustainis and Gapšys.
All suspects deny any wrongdoing.
