In all, 19 political parties have registered to run electoral campaigns, 305 party nominees and 29 independent candidates, according to Laura Matjošaitytė, deputy chairwoman of the commission.
After parties and independents register as political campaign participants, they can nominate candidates for elections.
Matjošaitė adds that the final number can still change, since parties can adjust their candidate lists until early August.
Not all registered candidates usually take part in elections. In 2012, only 31 independent candidates out of 51 who registered with the Central Electoral Commission actually ran for parliament seats. Of the 27 parties that registered for the same elections, only 12 ended up on the ballots.
