2016 budget boosts money for road development and maintenance

“This year, we will devote more attention to the asphalting of gravel road of national significance, to ensure that we implement the government’s program. Part of the money will also be used to finance the implementation of locally significant infrastructure objects related to the ‘Rail Baltica‘ project,” said Minister of Transport and Communication Rimantas Sinkevičius.

€70 million will be used to asphalt gravel roads of national significance that link other asphalt roads. €7 million will be used to finance the implementation of locally significant infrastructure objects related to the “Rail Baltica” project, which are defined by the minister.

The rest of the money in the program – more than €377 million – will be distributed according to the proportions used in the program’s law. More than €245 million, or 65 percent, of the program’s funds will be earmarked for the development and maintenance of nationally important roads and for the installation of traffic safety measures. Streets and roads of local importance will receive €113 million (30 percent), and the remaining 5 percent (almost €19 million) will be used as a road-related reserve.

In 2015, the KPPP program ended up receiving €24.8 more than had been planned for.
