24 percent of Lithuanians approve same-sex marriage

Twenty-four percent of respondents in Lithuania agreed with the statement that people of the same sex should be allowed to marry throughout Europe. On average, 61 percent of EU citizens favour same-sex marriage while 33 percent said they were opposed.

Lithuania’s results were similar to Poland’s (25 percent approved of same-sex marriage). Estonians were more tolerant (31 percent) while Latvians were slightly less approving (19 percent).

The survey was conducted between 30 May and 8 June. 27,718 EU citizens took part in the poll, including 1,004 Lithuanians.

Same-sex marriage is legal in 13 EU countries, some others have introduced same-sex civil partnership.
