The Seimas voted in support of the committee’s findings, with 69 votes for, 2 against, and 6 abstentions.
The amendments to the referendum law were suggested to make it easier to organise the referendum required to change Lithuania’s laws on dual citizenship. The amendment would hold the decision on article 12 of the Constitution to be passed if it is approved by 2/3 of the citizens that participate in the referendum.
Currently, Constitutional law mandates that changes to constitutional law are considered valid if they are supported by more than half of all citizens possessing the right to vote and who have been written into voter lists.
