Lara Lempertienė, Žana Skudovičienė, Monika Žąsytienė, Jewish song and dance group Fajerlech, Amit Belaitė and Markas Zingeris were awarded on Friday for their work in preserving Jewish cultural heritage, spreading Jewish culture in Lithuania and beyond, active social work with Jewish youth and fostering the Jewish identify in literature.
“I am convinced that tolerance for another nation, person and idea is one of the key principles of democracy. Tolerance has always been one of the foundations of peaceful co-existence. It is even more important today when our neighbors are going though the most painful moments of fighting for freedom and democracy,” Prime Minister Algirdas Butkevičius said during the ceremony.
He stressed that every person has the duty to fight anti-Semitism, xenophobia and racism around them.
