Businesses exporting to Belarus should expect obstacles, warns Lithuanian ambassador

According to Ambassador Ignatavičius who on Friday took part in the discussion of the Lithuanian-Belarusian Business Council, it is not completely clear how membership in the Eurasian Union will affect Belarus’ relations with other countries – the European Union and neighbouring countries.

“The businesses which produce in Belarus and export to other member states of the Eurasian Union will probably have bigger opportunities and easier conditions for operation. Yet, the businesses which export to Belarus or transport their goods in transit might see additional difficulties (as our carriers have already experienced that) due to differences in rules and the so called security requirements,” said the ambassador at the Lithuanian Confederation of Industrialists.

According to the ambassador, security requirements will be used to make economic restrictions.

“Nearly all of those regulations are called security requirements which, undoubtedly, can be used any time politically in order to restrict certain activities,” the diplomat said.
