Cameras to stop Vilnius drivers using new public transport lanes

“First of all, it will work by integrating public transport with video cameras that will automatically register cars that use the A lane without the right to do so. Currently, 4 out of 5 cars use the A lane illegally. I think that we will have a major leap forward this autumn,” said Šimašius.

Šimašius also said that the automatic system registering violators will not penalise drivers with a full vehicle – cars are allowed to use the public transport lane if they contain at least 4 people.

The capital’s mayor confirmed that more A lanes will soon appear in Vilnius and did not rule out the possibility of eliminating the privilege of using the lanes even for motorists with all seats in their car occupied.
