According to the press release, the structure of causes of death has been stable for many years, with the three main causes accounting for 83.6 percent of all deaths in 2016.
Cardiovascular diseases last year claimed more than half of lives (56.3 pct), while cancer tumors and external causes (accidents, murders, etc.) caused 19.9 percent and 7.4 percent of deaths, respectively.
Some 41,106 persons died in Lithuania in 2016, down by 670 deaths from the year before. Last year, about 1,433 deaths were reported per population of 100,000, as compared to about 1,438 in 2015.
