Representatives of the national broadcaster LRT and Raguotis said the decision had been taken by mutual consent.
“Restructuring of the portal is the main reason, Friday is my last day of work,” Raguotis told BNS.
According to LRT, the restructuring scheme will involve development of a new Internet Department, which will include the portal.
The restructuring decisions have been criticized by the portal’s director Vladimiras Laučius, saying that the restructuring was not coordinated with the lrt.lt editorial office. In his words, this undermines the role journalism, and the reform could bring partner content to the portal. He suggested that the decision should be revoked, expressing hope that the new top management of LRT would revise the reform plan.
Virginija Bunevičiūtė, spokeswoman for LRT, said the restructuring would allow better use of technologies and improve the content and dissemination of the portal. LRT has not revealed the investments that would be needed.
