“On Monday, we will start collecting signatures under an impeachment proposal, it requires signatures of a fourth of MPs, i.e., 36,” the party’s leader Gabrielius Landsbergis told BNS on Friday.
On Friday morning, Bastys said he was stepping down from the post of parliamentary vice-speaker, however, plans to keep his MP mandate. He also plans to turn to prosecutors for an investigation, furthermore, he decided not run for leadership of the Social Democratic Party in May.
The materials provided to the parliamentary speaker by the State Security Department describe Bastys’ connections to Yevgeny Kostin, titled as a representative of the Russian nuclear energy corporation Rosatom, former KGB agent Piotr Voyeiko, Russian state channel RTR journalist Ernest Matskevich, former Kaunas mafia leader Saturnas Dubininkas and Vadimas Pachomovas, a businessman suspected of shady operations.
According to the department’s conclusion, the links make Bastys vulnerable and would threaten the safety of state secrets he has access to.
