Covid-19. April 06

British Prime Minister Boris Johnson confirmed on Monday that from April 12 – in line with the current plan for England – all shops, hairdressing salons and gyms will be opened, and pubs and restaurants will be able to serve customers outside.

However, he has not made any promises as to whether the resumption of foreign travel – which is initially planned for May 17 – will be possible within this period.

At a press conference in Downing Street, Johnson and accompanying Chief Medical Officer of England Chris Whitty and Chief Scientific Adviser to the Government Patrick Vallance confirmed that all four conditions for moving to the next stage of lifting the restrictions had been met. These conditions are advances in the number of people vaccinated, evidence that vaccines are reducing infections and hospitalizations, declining pressure on public health services, and no significant increase in new imported coronavirus variants.

A representative of the European Medicines Agency (EVA) said in an interview on Tuesday (6 April) that there was a link between AstraZeneca and rare blood clots.

Marco Cavaleri, head of EVA’s immunization program, told Italian newspaper Il Messaggero: “In my opinion – we can now say – it is clear that there is a link to this vaccine, although it is not yet clear what causes this reaction.”

The official suggested that the agency would confirm this link in the near future.

The mayor of Vilnius, Remigijus Šimašius, assures that the vaccination of police officers and other persons belonging to the same priority group in Vilnius will start this week.

The mayor stressed that without changing the vaccination regimen, the latest vaccinations of police officers, cashiers employed in shopping centres and other people will start at the end of this week, after vaccination of the previous priority group.

“I appeal to the Minister of the Interior and the Minister of Health to take these decisions as soon as possible. Of course, we could make these lists on Thursday and get vaccinated on Friday. But it would be very nice if we could start doing it tomorrow, not on Thursday, ”the mayor said at a press conference.
