387 new coronavirus infections and 12 more deaths have been registered in the country in the last 24 hours, the Department of Statistics reported this morning.
The statistics also include 5 deaths of people who died earlier.
2,110 people recovered within the past 24 hours.
Since the beginning of the pandemic, 187,421 cases of the disease have been diagnosed in Lithuania.
Overall, 140,448 people recovered.
2,972 people died.
The number of active cases – 41,595.
The government’s expert council proposes that the British and Swedish AstraZeneca vaccine should not be age-restricted, so it could be given to people over the age of 55.
According to Ligita Jančorienė, head of the Centre for Infectious Diseases at Santaros clinics, the results of clinical trials show that the immune response in people over 70 years of age is no different from that in younger people.
It is also emphasized that the drug has been registered by the European Medicines Agency (EMA) as suitable for people over 18 years of age.
“In light of these results, the Board of Experts expressed the view that AstraZeneca should be vaccinated in accordance with the registered indication, including for people over 65,” the statement reads.
The Ministry of Health has decided to vaccinate teachers under 55 with AstraZeneca.
The government is finalizing a quarantine relaxation plan that the government plans to approve on Wednesday after final adjustments. Scenarios D, C, B and A (black, red, yellow and green) are distinguished depending on the incidence of the coronavirus.
The document emphasizes that restrictions, even when certain incidence rates are reached, are only reduced if individuals are tested in the sector and safety requirements are met.
Only in the case of the green scenario would it be planned to completely remove restrictions on the movement between local governments; in all other scenarios, traffic would be restricted at national or municipal level according to their incidence rates.
Today (February 9), during a press conference, Prime Minister Ingrida Šimonytė stressed that now, all of Lithuania is living within the boundaries of scenario C, but the situation is improving.
According to data from the Department of Statistics, on Tuesday (February 8), the overall incidence in the country reaches 339 cases per 100,000. residents.
