From Monday (March 1), travellers can take a coronavirus test at Vilnius Airport.
Testing services will be provided to travellers by the company Rezus.lt, which deals in medical and laboratory research – the company Lietuvos oro uostai announced in its announcement.
Paid tests will be carried out in special temporary structures located on the site of one of the car parks.
“Today, the testing process begins at the Vilnius airport, and from April – at the airports in Kaunas and Palanga. You can take the test not only before departure, but also after your return,” Dainius Čiuplys, director of the Lithuanian Airport Operations and Infrastructure Department, told journalists.
“This is a step towards restoring interest in flights,” he added.
Interior Minister Agnė Bilotaitė says that the current COVID-19 situation does not allow for possible mitigation to be considered.
“Overall, things are not getting better and there are no signs that anything will change. As for the easing, the indicators and the situation are not such that we can consider them,” Bilotaitė told reporters.
She said this after a meeting of the Government Committee on Extreme Affairs.
“Today, after our meeting, we have not presented the government with any new proposals for consideration,” said the minister.
Lithuania’s chief epidemiologist Loreta Ašoklienė says that Lithuania fares well in the overall context of the European Union, but that the incidence is increasing in parts of Europe.
Over the past day, 243 new cases of coronavirus infection have been confirmed – 113 less than a day earlier. There have been 7 deaths as a result of COVID-19 – 2 more than the day before.
In the last two weeks, per 100,000 inhabitants, the incidence is 251.3 cases.
Since the beginning of the pandemic, 199,397 people have been diagnosed in Lithuania.
Statistically, 184,848 have recovered (declared: 139,021).
The statistical number of active cases amounts to 7,645 (declared 53,473).
3,253 people have died to Covid-19 since the beginning of the pandemic. Altogether, 6,500 deaths are associated with this infectious disease, both directly and indirectly.
Yesterday, 3,082 tests were carried out for the presence of the coronavirus, more than 2,091,000 since the beginning of the pandemic.
The percentage of positive tests from the total performed in the last 7 days is 7.3 percent.
During the last day, 382 individuals were given the first dose of the vaccine, and vaccinations with the second necessary dose were not performed. Since the beginning of the vaccination campaign in the country, the first dose has been given to over 164,089, the second – over 73 thousand people.
