Covid-19. May 21

On Thursday evening (May 20), negotiators of the European Parliament (EP) and the European Council agreed to introduce the EU digital COVID certificate, which will make it easier to travel around the European Union during the pandemic.

The certificate, due to enter into force on July 1, will be available in both digital and paper formats. It will confirm that the person has been vaccinated against COVID-19, tested negative, or had a history of coronavirus. The document will be recognized in all EU countries.

The certificate will be valid for one year. This certificate will not become a travel document and a condition for the right to travel within the EU.

The website of the Opportunity Passport (this is the official name of the document) has already been created and will be launched on Monday, announced the Minister of Economy and Innovation Aušrinė Armonaitė.

The Opportunity Passport will be a document certifying that the person in possession of it has already been vaccinated against coronavirus, has recovered from it, or has tested that they are not infected with it. It will be made available in the form of an electronic QR code.

Passport holders will enjoy many privileges compared to unvaccinated people. Any Lithuanian citizen over 16 years of age will be able to obtain the Opportunity Passport. Persons up to 16 years of age will receive the relevant QR code without any prior action.

When you open the website gpasas.lt. you will need to confirm your identity, as with other Government Electronic Gate services or by using online banking services. The resulting QR code can then be saved on your smartphone or printed. The document will be linked to the e-health system, where all the vaccination data can be found.

Today, 18,000 doses of Moderna vaccine and 16,800 doses of AstraZeneca have been delivered to Lithuania. According to the Ministry of Healthcare, Moderna has delivered over 141,000 doses so far and 127,000 have been used. AstraZeneca delivered 336.5 thousand doses, over 294,000 were used.
