The European Commission is demanding high fines from AstraZeneca for delayed deliveries of COVID-19 vaccines. The Commission’s lawyer presented the claim at the hearing in the Brussels Court.
The commission has filed two lawsuits against the British-Swedish company for breaching the terms of the contract.
AstraZeneca delivered only 50 million doses to the EU and should have delivered 120 million in the first quarter. The Commission has postponed the deadline for deliveries to the end of June, but that too seems unrealistic. So it decided to file lawsuits and today demanded a gigantic penalty.
Brussels wants the company to pay € 10 a day for each dose that is not delivered on time. The penalty would be charged from July 1. In addition, the Commission wants AstraZeneca to pay a fine of EUR 10 million for each breach of contract terms.
The Vilnius city council invites high school graduates to vaccinate themselves with the second dose of AstraZeneca before the graduation session begins.
On Monday, May 31, high school students are expected at the Litexpo vaccination centre.
The local government made it possible to postpone the second vaccine for high school graduates to an earlier date.
Students can come to Litexpo on Monday from 9 to 19 without prior registration.
They should have an identity document and a student ID. Vaccination may also be attended by high school graduates who already have the scheduled date of the second vaccination in the Šeškinė clinic.
