The European Medicines Agency has agreed to allow children from 12 years of age to be vaccinated. Teenagers are to be vaccinated with Pfizer’s vaccine. Polish Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki waited for a decision in this matter, informing that it was dependent on it to allow a group of 12-15 years to be vaccinated.

“The Scientific Committee on Medicines has decided to allow Pfizer to vaccinate children 12-15 years of age,” said Marco Cavaleri, director of vaccines at the European Medicines Agency, at a press conference.

Vaccination of people aged 12-16 will be possible as soon as we receive information from the European Medicines Agency and there will be a sufficient number of doses, said Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki at a briefing in the village of Calowanie (Mazowieckie Voivodeship) on Friday.

When asked about vaccinating people between 12 and 16 years of age, the Prime Minister replied that the government was waiting for information on the authorization of such vaccinations and would take decisions with the Medical Council after receiving all information from the European Medicines Agency.

The fifth delivery of the Johnson & Johnson vaccine reached Lithuania – 14,400 doses. The delivery will be split among municipalities based on the number of unvaccinated priority groups and the vaccination rate.

Local governments with the highest incidence rates will receive more doses.

So far, Lithuania has received 21,600 doses of the preparation from the American manufacturer, more than 12,000 doses have been used.

One or two necessary doses were received by 35.4 per cent of the country’s population.

One third of the population was vaccinated with at least one dose in 41 municipalities. The leader in terms of vaccination is still Neringa, where one injection was given to 70.3 per cent, followed by Birštonas, where 51.1 percent were vaccinated.

Among the large cities, Kaunas remains the undisputed leader, where 39.3 percent took one dose. In Vilnius, 37 per cent were vaccinated.

At the other end of the list, there is the Šalčininkai district – 20.2 and Visaginas – 24.2 per cent of the population with at least one dose of injection.

During a week, over 129,000 inhabitants were vaccinated in the country, including over 65,000 with the first dose, and about 64,000 people underwent the full vaccination course.

The number of infected patients in hospitals continues to decline.

As of Wednesday, there are 867 infected hospitalised.

93 patients are treated in intensive care units.

Oxygen is given to 706 people, 54 patients require artificial lung ventilation.

61 people were hospitalized during the day.
