According to preliminary reports, the soldier was found dead in his room by his colleagues. An investigation into the death has been launched by Lithuania’s law-enforcement institutions.
The man’s family have been notified of his death. Top officials of the Lithuanian defence system conveyed condolences over the passing.
Croatia joined the combat group of the NATO Enhanced Forward Presence Battalion in Lithuania in early December. The first Croatian contingent in the German-led team of the NATO battalion consists of around 180 troops.
In addition to the Croatian group, the multinational NATO Enhanced Forward Presence Battalion’s combat team also includes over 450 troops from Germany, 100 from Belgium, 20 from Luxembourg, 200 from Norway and more than 200 from the Netherlands.
