A survey commissioned by news agency ELTA and carried out on 12-22 September by the pollster Baltijos Tyrimai asked respondents to name public figures they trusted most of all (the respondents were not provided with a closed list of names).
Those polled named a total of 97 public figures, while during the same poll three months prior the respondents named 84 public figures. Three out of ten or 29 percent of those polled said that there were no public figures they trusted or did not answer the question.
The poll reveals that nearly three out of ten adult residents of the country (28 percent) trust current President Dalia Grybauskaitė, serving her second term of office, more than any other public figure. The president’s rating, compared with the same poll in March, has grown by 2 percent.
Prime Minister Algirdas Butkevičius, leader of the ruling party, the Social Democrats, was also among the most trusted public figures (16 percent of those polled said they trusted him). The prime minister’s rating has jumped by 3 percent in half a year.
MEP Rolandas Paksas, chairman of the party Order and Justice and Lithuania’s former impeached president, came third on the list with 5 percent of Lithuanians saying they trusted him. Paksas’ rating, compared with results of previous polls, remained unchanged.
