Election watchdog divides EUR 2.75 mln among Lithuania’s political parties

State funding was earmarked to seven parties, with the bulk going to the opposition Homeland Union – Lithuanian Christian Democrats (conservatives) who will get 661,000 euros.

Just over half of a million euros will be paid to the ruling Lithuanian Farmers and Greens Union (EUR 549,800) and the opposition Lithuanian Social Democratic Party (EUR 505,300).

The opposition Liberal Movement, which had lost all of its 395,000 euros in grant last semester over election violations, will this time receive 396,300 euros.

The Labor Party will be transferred 233,000 euros, the Order and Justice party will get 223,800 euros and the Electoral Action of Poles in Lithuania – Union of Christian Families will be provided 181,300 euros.

This year, parties will be granted a total of 5.5 million euros from the state budget.
State grants are provided to parties that meet the standards set by law and have secured at least 3 percent of the vote during the last elections to the parliament, local governments and the European Parliament.
