Electricity price edges up in Lithuania

Last week compared with the previous week, electricity generation in Lithuania decreased by 29 percent. Thermal power plants dropped generated by a quarter less electricity, while wind power plants – by two thirds less. Due to the decrease of local electricity production, electricity import increased from 60 to 71 percent on 13-19 July. More than half of it was imported from Latvia, Estonia and Finland, while the rest was imported from third countries.

The second unit of Kaliningrad’s combined heat and power plant will be stopped for maintenance from 20 July to the end of the month. The second unit operating at 420 MW capacity will ensure electricity supply for this Russian region but Lithuania will not be able to import electricity from Kaliningrad during peak hours due to insufficient electricity production capacity.
