“I perceive this bridge at present as a prosthesis. When you cannot live without it, well, what else can you do, you have a prosthesis implanted. In natural surroundings this bridge seems similarly unfavourable to landscape. On the other hand, it should be understood, people live there, they want to come and go, but I do not think that all the rest means are used to full extent, such as modern ferries, fast travelling to Smiltynė or directly to Nida. This issue could be solved, I think, the idea of a bridge should, for a time being, be left in peace, now we have more serious issues to deal with,” said Trečiokas in an interview with Žinių Radijas radio on Thursday.
Last January, the Council of Neringa Municipality approved the idea to build a bridge connecting the Curonian Spit to mainland Lithuania.
According to the Lithuanian National Commission for UNESCO, if this bridge is built, the World Heritage Centre may cross out the Curonian Spit from the UNESCO list. The same happened to the German city Dresden when a bridge was built there.
