“I have received a request from Lithuania’s responsible institutions over the cancellation of MEP Viktor Uspaskich’s immunity. (…) The request has been forwarded to the Committee on Legal Affairs,” the EP president said.
Schulz did not reveal what Uspaskich was charged with but Lithuanian prosecutors earlier wanted to prosecute the Lithuanian politician for contempt of court.
Earlier this week, European lawmakers also started deliberating Lithuanian prosecutors’ other request to strip Uspaskich of his legal immunity in a fraud case.
Representatives of the Prosecutor General‘s Office were not available for comment on Wednesday.
