EU criticises Lithuania for sluggish record in resettling refugees

The European Commission’s report, published last week, showed that Lithuania has so far only resettled 11 refugees. The country has committed to taking in 1,105 migrants under the EU’s two-year programme.

Meanwhile Latvia has accepted 23 refugees and Estonia 19.

Lithuania’s Deputy Interior Minister Elvinas Jankevičius said that refugee resettlement is not a race and numbers alone do not show how well EU countries are implementing the programme.
