The European Commission’s report, published last week, showed that Lithuania has so far only resettled 11 refugees. The country has committed to taking in 1,105 migrants under the EU’s two-year programme.
Meanwhile Latvia has accepted 23 refugees and Estonia 19.
Lithuania’s Deputy Interior Minister Elvinas Jankevičius said that refugee resettlement is not a race and numbers alone do not show how well EU countries are implementing the programme.
Lithuania has so far received a Syrian family of five from Greece, an Iraqi family of four and a couple from Syria.
European Union states have agreed to distribute about 160,000 refugees among themselves. So far, only 8,000 people have been resettled under the programme.
