Regardless of earlier reports about collapse of the group headed by Britain’s Euro-sceptical leader Nigel Farage, confirmation came on Tuesday that the group would continue working.
“It’s official – the group has been established. I can confirm that I and Paksas will remain in the group,” Mazuronis told BNS on Tuesday.
Reports about the group’s dissolution came following withdrawal of Latvian MEP Iveta Grigule. Every EP group has to include members from at least seven member-states, and the Europe of Freedom and Direct Democracy group no longer satisfied the requirement after Grigule’s departure. Nevertheless, Robert Iwaszkiewicz came aboard.
Farage’s UK Independence Party wants Great Britain to leave the European Union and introduce restriction on immigration. The party has lately gained popularity among the British population.
Farage has also repeatedly stated support to Russia’s politics and accused the West of causing the crisis in Ukraine.
