“Farmers” accused of acting out Druskininkai mayor bidding

The Conservatives and “Farmers” have clashed over the composition of the new Central Electoral Commission (VRK). The State Governance and Municipal Committee (VVSK) has ruled to approve the VRK composition without Conservative delegate, Druskininkai municipal council member Vilius Semeška, alfa.lt reported.

Due to this on Thursday the Conservatives called for the formation of the VRK to be postponed to next week. The head of the VVSK, “farmer” Povilas Urbšys stressed that V. Semeška does not fit the requirements for VRK due to a lack of work experience in electoral commissions.

“Do not move your headaches into the Seimas hall,” Urbšys rebuffed the Conservatives. Meanwhile Conservative Andrius Kubilius responded that the “Farmers” are bending knee for Druskininkai mayor Ričardas Malinauskas because the Homeland Union – Lithuanian Christian Democrat candidate for VRK is a member of the Druskininkai opposition.

“I have yet to see any such attempts to enact R. Malinauskas’ bidding in Seimas before,” noted A. Kubilius. Nontheless the Seimas did not pass the Conservative proposal to shift the composition of the VRK to next week. The initiative received support from 30 members of Seimas, while 60 voted against and 22 abstained.
