The accident happened in Pabradė, eastern Lithuania, on Saturday, it said in a statement issued after the next of kin were informed of the accident.
“The tragic accident took place after the armored vehicle driven by the soldier hit a tree,” the statement said.
Captain Gintautas Ciunis, spokesman for the Lithuanian army, told BNS Lithuania no other people were injured in the incident. In his words, the deceased soldier was born in 1984.
German law enforcement institutions are now carrying out an investigation.
The soldier involved served within the German-led NATO battalion deployed in Lithuania since last year.
