Some 132 million euro banknotes, weighing 114 tons in total, will be delivered to Lithuania, the Lithuanian central bank said.
“We will now borrow the amount of banknotes necessary for the euro adoption and in 2016, when we print the banknotes at one of the European Central Bank-accredited printing houses, we will return them,” Vitas Vasiliauskas, the central bank’s governor, said in a press release.
Lithuania is set to replace its national currency, the litas, with the single European currency on 1 January 2015.
