Government considers measures to help rain-hit farmers

“We are looking for solutions. One of the options is to turn to the European Commission. Another option is to look into the future and set up a crisis fund, because natural disasters and animal-related diseases have a significant impact on the agricultural sector,” Skvernelis said on LRT Radio.

“Declaring a nationwide state of emergency is an option that would allow us using the state’s reserve funds,” he said.

The Agriculture Ministry plans to turn to the European Commission on Wednesday for compensation for losses suffered by farmers.
