Governments programme based on good intentions – President

“I truly wish that the good intentions that the program is build upon are as easy as possible for everyone to translate into reality,” the president told journalists on Thursday in comment of the government’s program.

In her words, any document – a state strategy or the government’s program – is first of all built on good intentions.

“And this is a good thing, we have to have hope, we have to have ambitions and we have to want to make something better. And the specific and actual outcome will depend on more than just the government and the cooperation with the Seimas, it will depend on the country’s potential, economics and external challenges,” said Grybauskaitė.

Presented at the parliament on Tuesday, the government’s program mainly focuses on social issues – support to families, promotion of adoption, protection of child rights, efforts against violence and higher birth rates. The government is determined to cut the accessibility of alcohol and tobacco, ban ads, boost penalties for corruption and reduce the number of state institutions. The parliament should vote on approval of the program next week.
