Grave robbers dig up WWI and WWII German graves in Lithuania

The burial sites of soldiers who died during World War One and World War Two are located in the districts of Jurbarkas and Vilkaviškis, south-west of Lithuania.

Remains of four German soldiers from World War Two were discovered in a forest near the village of Leipgiriai in Jurbarkas District.

Grave robbers also dug up a World War One burial site of German soldiers in the village of Kuršai, in Vilkaviškis District.

The police are investigating the crimes.

Local residents have told Lzinios.lt that grave robbers – or “black archaeologists” as they are locally known – have become increasingly active in recent years.
