According to a survey of the country’s elite carried out by the Reitingai magazine, Grybauskaitė tops the list of the country’s most influential politicians for the third year in a row, followed by Skvernelis at number two and Karbauskis at number three.
Further down the list are Lithuania’s first post-independence leader Vytautas Landsbergis and former President Valdas Adamkus. Gabrielius Landsbergis, leader of the opposition Homeland Union–Lithuanian Christian Democrats, rose to sixth place this year, from number 11 last year.
The top ten list also includes former Prime Minister Andrius Kubilius, Foreign Minister Linas Linkevičius, Homeland Union MP Ingrida Šimonytė and Kaunas Mayor Visvaldas Matijošaitis. Speaker of the Seimas Viktoras Pranckietis, a political newcomer, is at number eleven.
Algirdas Butkevičius dropped to 15th position in this year’s survey of the elite, down from number two last year, after losing the post of prime minister and the position of chairman of the Lithuanian Social Democratic Party (LSDP).
A representative survey by the pollster Spinter Tyrimai also placed Grybauskaitė, Skvernelis and Karbauskis at the top of the list, followed by Adamkus, Gabrielius Landsbergis, Vytautas Landsbergis, Butkevičius, Pranckietis, MEP Vilija Blinkevičiūtė and MP Irena Degutienė.
