“Half of the coins planned to be printed this year are in the vaults already,” Vitas Vasiliauskas said at a news conference.
Euro banknotes, which Lithuania is borrowing from the Bundesbank, are to be delivered by December.
“Some 132 million individual banknotes will be delivered to us and we will return these over a period of two years. The delivery will take place in October through November,” the board chairman of the Bank of Lithuania said.
Lithuania, which is set to adopt the euro next January, plans to mint a total of 370 million euro coins this year and next year.
