Hateful online comments about Orlando shootings under criminal investigation in Lithuania

“Prosecutors believe that there is sufficient evidence in the current phase of the proceedings to conclude that criminal deeds could have been committed and that the deeds and circumstances need to be investigated,” Gintarė Vitkauskaitė-Satkauskienė, spokeswoman for the Prosecutor General’s Office, told BNS.

The investigation, handled by Vilnius prosecutors, is carried out under the chapters of the Criminal Code which stipulate liability for public instigation of violence against a person or a group of people because of gender, sexual orientation, race, nationality, language, origin, social status, religion, beliefs or attitudes.

Vilnius prosecutors revoked the police finding against investigating the comments, launching their own probe.
