In April, Lithuania’s volume of retail trade down by 0.1 percent

In April 2015 compared with March 2015, the seasonally adjusted volume of retail trade rose by 0.7 percent in the euro Area (EA19) and by 0.6 percent in the EU28. In March retail trade fell by 0.6 percent and 0.4 percent respectively.

In April 2015 compared with April 2014 the retail sales index increased by 2.2 percent in the euro area and by 2.6 percent in the EU28.

The 0.7 percent increase in the volume of retail trade in the euro area in April 2015, compared with March 2015, is due to rises of 1.3 percent for Food, drinks and tobacco, of 0.6 percent for automotive fuel and of 0.3 percent for the non-food sector. In the EU28, the 0.6 percent increase in retail trade is due to rises of 0.8 percent for Food, drinks and tobacco, of 0.7 percent for automotive fuel and of 0.5 percent for the non-food sector.

Among Member States for which data are available, the highest increases in total retail trade were registered in Ireland (+3.2 percent), Romania (+3.1 percent) and Germany (+1.7 percent), while the largest decreases were observed in Luxembourg (-3.5 percent), Poland (-2.7 percent) and Denmark (-1.0 percent).

The 2.2 percent increase in the volume of retail trade in the euro area in April 2015, compared with April 2014, is due to rises of 3.3 percent for the non-food sector, of 3.2 percent for automotive fuel and of 1.1 percent for Food, drinks and tobacco. In the EU28, the 2.6 percent increase in retail trade is due to rises of 4.3 percent for the non-food sector, of 3.4 percent for automotive fuel and of 0.6 percent for Food, drinks and tobacco.

Among Member States for which data are available, the highest increases in total retail trade were observed in Romania (+8.1 percent), Ireland (+6.9 percent) and Hungary (+5.3 percent), while decreases were observed in Luxembourg (-9.0 percent), Finland (-2.1 percent), Slovenia (-0.9 percent) and Slovakia (-0.2 percent).
