“Suspicions of large-scale bribery and influence peddling have been brought,” Rita Stundienė, spokeswoman for the Prosecutor General’s Office, told BNS on Monday.
Gapšys has rejected allegations against him.
“I did not commit these offences,” he said after being questioned by prosecutors.
The prosecutors suspect that Gapšys accepted a €25,000 bribe in the form of discounts on political advertising, in exchange for decisions that were beneficial to MG Baltic, one of Lithuania’s biggest manufacturing, trade, real estate and media groups.
As part of the pre-trial investigation, bribery suspicions have also been brought against Eligijus Masiulis, a former leader of the Liberal Movement and a former member of parliament, and MG Baltic Vice-president Raimondas Kurlianskis, who heads the group’s media segment.
