Intelligence info aimed at influencing judges, MG Baltic says

“Responding to the State Security Department‘s (VSD) published information, MG Baltic states that such action taken at a time when the hearing of the criminal case begins amounts to direct influence on the judges who will hear the case, therefore, the defendants can no longer expect a fair and impartial trial,” the statement reads.

MG Baltic President Darius Mockus, quoted in the statement, says the VSD report to lawmakers, published on Monday, is “a mixture of opinions and assumptions”.

In his opinion, VSD director Darius Jauniškis should remember that “he swore to the State of Lithuania and not to individuals officials”.

“The method of staged reports is an imitation of Stalin and Beria’s activity, but it’s been done clumsily and hastily in response to “orders”, Mockus said.

The hearing of a political corruption case involving the Labor Party and the Liberal Movement, MG Baltic as well as existing and former Labor Party and Liberal Movement leaders and members should start later this year.

The VSD submitted the report to the parliamentary Committee on National Security and Defense which has recently finished a probe into business groups’ influence on political processes in the country.

The VSD head says actions of MG Baltic representatives pose threat to national security as they might destabilize the democratic political system.
