Vilnius Regional Administrative Court on April 5 upheld the Migration Department‘s decision to grant the family temporary legal protection instead of refugee status they had sought.
“The family decided not to appeal,” Eglė Samuchovaitė, a lawyer who represented the Iraqis, told BNS.
She said that she was not authorized to comment on the reasons for the decision.
Refugee status grants permanent residency in Lithuania, whereas legal protection grants only temporary residence. However, financial benefits and other guarantees are the same.
