Jakilaitis plans to turn to court over Karbauskis’ persecution

Jakilaitis claims he’s been persecuted for criticizing the party and its leader.

“I am going to turn to court soon. Lawyer Algimantas Šindeikis is preparing all documents,” Jakilaitis told BNS Lithuania, adding that he would submit to court “politicians and other people’s correspondence received from trustworthy sources and other evidence“.

Jakilaitis says he’s being persecuted for his criticism of the LVŽS’ policies, businesses linked to the party, the use of EU funding and Russia-produced fertilizer’s imports to Lithuania.

The LVŽS’ political group in the Lithuanian parliament on Tuesday issued a statement, announcing that the European Anti-Fraud Office (OLAF) would launch an investigation into whether Lithuanian public institution Pirmoji Kava and production company TV Play did not breach EU financial rules, making contracts on the TV show The Lithuanian Children of the Millennium.

Karbauskis turned to OLAF regarding suspected non-transparent use of EU funds for the TV show in late February, in response to media reports that Pirmoji Kava allegedly receives EU funding for the TV show via the Lithuanian National Radio and television (LRT), calls tenders which are eventually won by a sole participant, TV Play.

Lithuania’s Public Procurement Office also turned to the Prosecutor General’s Office two weeks ago regarding Pirmoji Kava’s public tenders for the TV shows broadcast on LRT.

Laurynas Šeškus, one of the founders and head of Nord Play, stressed in a statement the Public Procurement Office has not identified any deficiencies regarding EU support Pirmoji Kava received for the Lithuanian Children of the Millennium.

Šeškus says Karbauskis’ statement is only aimed at damaging Jakilaitis’s reputation.

Jakilaitis is a shareholder of Nord Play.
