Jewish representatives to visit WWII mass grave discovered in Šiauliai

“We have invited rabbis, anthropologists as we don’t have information whether those are Jewish or non-Jewish remains,” Faina Kukliansky told BNS on Tuesday.

Earlier this week, a commission at Šiauliai Municipality decided that the human remains from the recently-discovered mass burial site dating back to WWII would be excavated.

It was initially reported that the excavation work would start over the upcoming days but Vitalis Lebedis, a spokesman for the municipality, told BNS on Tuesday that nothing would be done until the arrival of the Jewish delegation on Monday, including Israeli Ambassador to Lithuania Amin Maimon.

Around 40 remains were found at the burial site.
