Kaunas Vice-Mayor Simonas Kairys said the levy could amount to 0,5 euros per night in the city’s hotels or private apartments.
“We want the draft decision to be submitted to the city council during the September 8 meeting. Most importantly, the money should go towards tourism infrastructure. The majority of questions are in connection to control and other collection mechanisms,” said Kairys.
Other Lithuanian towns that have pillow taxes include Birštonas, Druskininkai and Palanga, with the capital Vilnius also considering the levy on incoming tourists.
