Langaitis out of Seimas, former Kaunas mayor Kupčinskas in

Langaitis confirmed to members of the commission that he was resigning “of his own free will”.

He will be replaced in the Seimas by Andrius Kupčinskas, a former mayor of Lithuania’s second-biggest city of Kaunas, who was the next-in-line candidate on the conservative Homeland Union–Lithuanian Christian Democrats’ list in the 2016 general elections.

Langaitis, a member of the conservative Homeland Union’s political group in the Seimas, announced last Friday that he was leaving the parliament because “it is not possible to work constructively” with the ruling Lithuanian Farmers and Greens Union (LFGU).

Gabrielius Landsbergis, the leader of the Homeland Union, told BNS that Langaitis apparently had to choose between business and politics.

Before he was elected to the Seimas in the fall of 2016, Langaitis worked in the areas of investment banking, venture capital and technological startups.
