“We are asking to compensate the losses sustained, of course, not forever, but for this period, perhaps until the New Year. We are asking for 32 million euros specifically for Lithuania. And I will also discuss this with the new EU commissioner,” she told the LRT Radio before attending the meeting of the Agriculture and Fisheries Council.
The discussions would also involve the issue of support next year, she said.
“We are asking and trying to convince everyone that such support should be provided from the 2015 budget, in particular as the heading of agriculture will now have more than 0.5 billion euros that could be used to compensate the consequences of the sanctions. I will discuss that with the commissioner,” the minister said.
Russia banned imports of agriculture and food products from the EU early in August. The measure hit hard the Lithuania’s milk producers, in particular through a sharp fall in purchase prices.
The average milk purchase price in Lithuania totalled 786.7 litas per ton in September, down 6.1 percent since August 2014 and down 32.6 percent since September 2013.
