During the sitting, Latvia also presented its presidency priorities, ministers discussed means to fight terrorism and preparation for the European Council‘s meeting in March.
“In order to efficiently fight against terrorism and ensure its citizens’ security the EU must act unanimously: strengthen and update the control of its external borders, fight against propaganda and fend off other information security threats, this way defending the European values and preventing radicalisation in society,” the Lithuanian deputy minister said.
The ministers have agreed on the necessity to create the Passenger Name Record (PNR) as soon as possible. The Council has also decided that the fight against terrorism must not affect the free movement of persons in the Schengen area.
