She made the statement at Tuesday’s meeting of the EU General Affairs Council in the run-up to the European Council summit, which is due to address the migration crisis and preparations for the UK referendum on the country’s EU membership.
Before the referendum, the British government seeks EU reforms, which would, among other things, allow restricting in-work benefits for EU citizens working in Great Britain.
“We cannot imagine the EU without the UK, therefore we should not speak about Britain’s exit from the EU, Brexit, but about its staying in the Union – BritStay,” Lithuania’s Permanent Mission at the EU cited Neliupšienė as saying at the meeting on Tuesday.
The European Council summit is scheduled for Thursday and Friday.
